How Long Do Dermal Fillers Last?
Dermal fillers add volume and fullness to facial features, restoring a softer, more youthful appearance. Dermal fillers can smooth the appearance of lines and wrinkles. They can fill in areas that have begun to lose volume and look hollow. They can also add volume to enhance the cheeks, chin, or other features.
What is a Dermal Filler?
Dermal fillers are materials that, when injected into the skin, add fullness to facial features. Dermal fillers come in many different formulations. At Luminesse Laser & Skin Clinic, we offer Belotero® and the Restylane® family of dermal fillers to treat all areas of the face and provide you with the best range of options.
This dermal filler has been approved to treat nasolabial folds, the lines that run down from the sides of the nose to the mouth.
This filler works to enhance the volume of the cheeks, which often lose fullness as part of the aging process. It can also be used on the hands to make them look smoother and less gaunt.
This especially flexible and dynamic formula works on the lips to provide plumping and enhancement without preventing the lips from having a full range of motion.
This filler works on nasolabial folds and marionette lines (smile lines) around the mouth. This durable formula can treat even severe nasolabial folds.
This filler treats nasolabial folds and marionette lines while allowing the area to maintain a natural range of motion.
Used for the lips and fine lines around the mouth, this filler works best in areas where constant motion requires flexibility and softness.

How Long Do Dermal Fillers Last?
Hyaluronic dermal fillers usually last from six months to one year. Thinner, more flexible fillers used in areas like the lips tend to metabolize faster than thicker fillers used for deep lines and wrinkles. In addition, areas that move often, such as around the mouth, will lose dermal filler faster than areas that do not move as much.
How Do Dermal Fillers Work?
Both Belotero® and the Restylane® family of fillers are made of hyaluronic acid, a molecule that traps moisture in the skin, improving plumpness and hydration. This molecule occurs naturally in the body, but levels in the skin decline with age. The body recognizes this dermal filler material and lets it stay where injected.
What Results Will I See With Dermal Fillers?
Hyaluronic acid dermal fillers give an immediate boost in volume when injected. This will improve over the next few days as the hyaluronic acid attracts moisture and increases plumping. You will see added volume and fullness in the treated area, with lines and wrinkles becoming less visible. Your results appear natural and you will still have all your normal range of facial expressions.
Is There Any Downtime With Dermal Fillers?
There is no downtime with dermal fillers. You should be able to go back to all your normal activities. You may have some minor soreness in the treated area for a few hours. Because the body recognizes hyaluronic acid as a natural material, there is little risk of any reaction.
