One of the most popular cosmetic treatments in the world, Botox® smoothes the look of lines and wrinkles around the eyes and forehead to give people a more relaxed, younger, refreshed appearance.

How Does Botox® Work?

The area around the eyes and forehead can develop deep lines and wrinkles. These expression lines occur in areas where muscles under the skin cause it to crease during a facial expression. Over years of facial expressions, these wrinkles may become deeper and appear even when while at rest.

Botox® smooths these lines and wrinkles by interrupting the communication between facial muscles and nerves. Using a neurotoxin called botulinum toxin A, Botox® injections temporarily silence the nerve’s signals telling the muscle to move. With the muscle relaxed, the skin can also relax and become smoother. Botox® does not harm the nerve or the muscle, so its function returns to normal once it wears off.

Botox® results take two to four days to become visible. Full results can take up to a week. The injected molecules must attach to the nerve cells to start the process, so once this begins, results appear and continue to improve for a week or more.

How Many Units of Botox® for Forehead Lines?

Each person will require a particular number of Botox® units based on their unique needs. However, the average number of units ranges from ten to thirty, with the manufacturer recommending twenty. Some people may require more or less Botox® to achieve their goals.

How Much is Botox®?

According to RealSelf, the average Botox® treatment costs $550, with a wide range of prices varying by location, the skill and training of the practitioner, and other factors. In addition, you may choose to receive Botox® in more than one area. The best way to get an estimate of your costs is to schedule a consultation so we can discuss your areas of concern and how to address them best.

How Long Does Botox® Last?

Botox® generally lasts three to four months. After this point, it will begin to wear off, and the muscle will start to become active again. This means your wrinkles will return to the way they were before Botox®. Many people schedule regular Botox® treatments, and with the manufacturer’s loyalty program, maintaining your smooth, youthful appearance can become a bit less expensive.

What Results Will I See With Botox®?

Within a few days, you will see the treated lines and wrinkles start to look smoother and less visible. Once the muscle has fully relaxed, the wrinkles can relax as well. Creases in the forehead disappear, making you look younger and calmer, and lines around the eyes soften and smooth out.

Is There Any Downtime With Botox®?

You can return to your normal activities right after treatment, although you may notice a small amount of redness or swelling. You should avoid rubbing your face for the next several hours to make sure the Botox® stays where it should be, and you should avoid vigorous exercise for a day or two.

Am I a Good Candidate for Botox®?

Most people are good candidates for Botox®. You should not have Botox® if you have ever had an allergic reaction to any type of neurotoxin treatment or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
