Botox® and Dysport® are two types of botulinum toxin. This is produced by a bacterium called Clostridium botulinum and purified for medical use. Only very small amounts of toxin are injected.
Once injected, the botulinum neurotoxin works on the nerves that control your facial muscles. By targeting the muscles that cause wrinkles, the treatment significantly reduces their appearance.
Botox® and Dysport® both work in the same way: they block nerves from sending signals to muscles. Many of our deepest and most noticeable lines and wrinkles form in areas of the face where muscles contract and pull the skin. This includes between the eyebrows, on the forehead, around the eyes, and around the mouth.
Dysport® treats wrinkles and frown lines between the eyebrows. Botox® is approved to treat frown lines, crow’s feet, and forehead creases. Your provider will choose the best therapy for your areas of greatest concern.
