What Does a Chemical Peel Do?

A chemical peel is a treatment that uses one or a combination of exfoliants to remove layers of skin, revealing a more youthful, smooth and vibrant skin. Chemical peels can help treat acne scars, wrinkles, sun damage, and many other imperfections.

What is a Chemical Peel?

Chemical peels improve the appearance of skin by removing dead cells, stimulating collagen production, and revealing a smoother complexion.

During your chemical peel treatment at Luminesse Laser & Skin Clinic, our team of leading beauty experts will apply a solution to the treatment area, which causes it to exfoliate or peel off in layers until new healthy-looking skin is revealed underneath.

What are the Types of Chemical Peels?

There are three different chemical peels: superficial, medium, and deep.

Superficial peel uses mild acids like alpha or beta hydroxy acids to exfoliate by gently penetrating the outermost layer of skin.

Medium peel penetrates middle and outer layers using trichloroacetic or glycolic acid, making it more effective for removing damaged skin cells than a superficial one.

Deep peels fully penetrate the upper dermis with phenol or trichloroacetic acid to remove damaged epidermal cells, which often leaves significant recovery time post-procedure.

How Can I Prepare for a Chemical Peel?

Prior to your chemical peel procedure, you will meet with one of our experienced team members for a consultation to determine a treatment plan. The best peel for your concerns will be determined and all of the details concerning the process will be discussed.

During the consultation, a health questionnaire will assist the technician to determine if any conditions or medication could interfere with the procedure.

To ensure you get the best results from your chemical peel and to minimize any additional discomfort, topical retinoids should be avoided for 48 hours before and after your appointment.
